Viewing PDF files in Mozilla Firefox

We have been made aware of an issue in the labs that has been found between Mozilla Firefox 4 and Adobe Reader X. We have received reports that when a user tries to open a PDF from within Firefox 4, the window will hang with Adobe’s blue status bar and never finish opening the file. We have been able to reproduce the problem and while we aren’t exactly sure why it happens, the accelerated Firefox release cycle seems to be part of the problem. With that in mind, we are making a change to the way Firefox is handling PDF files. PDF files will now be opened directly with Adobe Reader instead of using the web browser plugin.

As of this morning, any new Firefox profile will have this setting enabled. Existing Firefox users that are experiencing this issue can perform either of the following:

-   Change the settings in Firefox to make PDF documents open up with Adobe Reader instead of opening within the FireFox browser.
Tools > Options > Applications tab> Change the action for “Adobe Acrobat Document” to “Use Adobe Reader

-   Close Firefox, Erase their profile using the Clear User Application Data application (under Start Menu\Programs\Utilities\File & Disk Management\Clear User Application Data), Reopen Firefox

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
