The Microsoft Office software suite has been updated to the latest version, "Office 2011". The new software is now available on all lab machines.
Question #1: Why did the CLC lab group take so long to upgrade to the latest version?
Answer: Before Office 2011 for the Mac was released, Office 2004 was the last version that supported the CLC Tech Class 'Clickers' for faculty course instruction. The Clicker software required Visual Basic scripting (VBScript) which was removed from the versions of the software after 2004 and was not available again until Office 2011.
Question #2: Why upgrade the software now, between Fall and Spring semesters?
Answer: The upgrade to Office 2011 was not only one of the most common feedback requests by lab users, it is something that we have been eager to push out to the labs as well. Since the University will no longer be supporting the eInstruction clicker software as of the Spring 2011 semester, we used this opportunity to update Microsoft Office as soon as possible. While we normally do not deploy software upgrades like this in the the short time between semesters, we felt the amount of user requests and overall better performance of the new software justified the the rush to get the software out.
