K3b - Disc authoring software

If K3b is not burning discs as fast as it should be, then maybe you've got your burning speed set incorrectly. To check the speed that it is set at and to change it follow these directions:

Start K3b through the menu.  For gnome it is under "Sound & Video" -> "More Sound & Video Applications" -> "K3b".  Click on "Settings" and then "Configure K3b...".   On the left side of the new window, there is a menu, click on the second item down, which is "Devices".   In the right hand side of theis window, there will be entries for "Reader" and "Writer", these are the drives on the system that can read and write.  Under the "Writer", there is an item called "Max write speed".  This should be set to around 16.  This can differ, depending on what type of machine you are using.  If it is set to "0" then you need to click on it and change the speed to 16 or higher.  You may make the speed 99, as the device will not write any faster than it is able to.
