If you would like to schedule an orientation of the equipment found in a technology classroom email TechClass@psu.edu to request a demonstration or call 8-777-0035.
Unlocking the Podium
- Locate the lock. Enter the combination. Push up on the lock and then pull down. (Lock combination may be obtained by calling 8-777-0035.)
- Remove lock, scramble the combination, and open the doors.
There are currently two types of control systems installed in technology classroom podiums:
- Tech Class Control System (TCCS) - most common, white LCD "Crestron" touch screen on podium dash panel (log in with podium combination)
- AMX touchscreen - full touch screen monitor (IST 113, 102 Oak, 108 Wartik - call 8-777-0035 to obtain combination)
The procedure for selecting projector input is different for each type of control system.
TCCS (Crestron©) Touchpanel
An LCD touchpanel is located on the dash panel of the podium near the lamp on the external connection plate. To operate the system:
- Touch the LCD screen to bring up the login screen.
- Log in to the touchpanel if login is requested (use the same combination as the podium lock.) The projector will automatically power on and begin warming up.
- Select projector input using the touchpanel buttons.
PC, Mac, external laptop, and document camera (where available) channel buttons are on the left side of the touchpanel. DVD/VCR, cable TV (where available) and external video channel buttons are on the right side of the touchpanel.
To display closed captioning with video input, press the CC button on the right side of the touchpanel.
To temporarily black out the projector, press the Blank button on the right side of the touchpanel.
To change the classroom audio level, press the VOLUME button on the right side of the touchpanel. Adjust the volume level using the up and down arrows on the touchpanel screen.
To turn off the projector and control system press the OFF button on the right side of the touchpanel. Select "YES" on the touchpanel to confirm shutdown.
Locate the switcher box (a black or blue panel located inside the podium.) Select the appropriate channel for the device you want to project. PC, Mac, and external laptop channels are on the top row, DVD/VCR and external video channels are on the bottom row.
Classroom audio is set by the toggle switch on the right side of the Rossman switcher. For PC, Mac and external laptop audio, the toggle switch should be in the left position, labled "VGA." For DVD/VCR and external video, the toggle should be to the right, labeled "VIDEO." Adjust the sound system volume by turning the knob on the right side of the panel. Some podiums have additional sound system controls on a white box inside the podium.
Projectors in Tech Classrooms with Rossman switchers are controlled by a projector remote located in the podium.
To turn the projector on, point the remote control at the projector and press the power button. (In some classrooms you may have to move closer or stand underneath the projector for a clear signal.) Make sure the projector remote is switched on. Use the source buttons on the remote control to select the device you want to project.
To turn the projector off, point the remote control at the projector and press the power button twice.
Full-screen Touchpanels (AMX)
Classrooms such as IST 113, 102 Oak, and 108 Wartik feature full-screen touchpanel control systems. To log into the system, touch anywhere on the touch panel itself. You will be prompted to enter a password (the password may be obtained by calling 8-777-0035) and select a projector mode (single or dual.)
