Pollock Hub site Network Equipment Rack Replacement

On Monday December 19 starting at 11PM, EI&O ENCS will be replacing network equipment racks in the Pollock Hub site. During this time Common Good wireless, VoIP and Residence Hall wired and wireless services provided via Pollock Hub site will be unavailable. All services are expected to be restored by Tuesday December 20 at 7AM.

Penn State Beaver Unplanned Power outage

Power is out at the Penn State Beaver Campus due to a vehicle accident. All Network and Voice services at the campus are out. Local utilities have been notified.

Web Authentication problem with some sites

Users may encounter an issue with authenticating to some websites requiring PSU Access Account authentication. OVPIT is investigating the problem.

Update: VoIP to Mitel/I2 calling issues

The vendor has identified the issue and needs to implement a configuration update. The changes will result in a brief outage to Mitel phones. Mitel phones should be restored to full service around 11am.

UEN Border router failure testing

On Friday Dec 16th in the 5AM-7AM Maintenance window OIS with coordination from EI&O ENCS will be preforming proactive testing of Penn State border routing to ensure the network preforms as expected under failure situations. No outage is expected during the test.

New UCS Server Implementation

A new server will be introduced to the University Collaboration Suite (UCS) service on Tuesday, December 20. Work to implement the new server will take place during the OVPIT Maintenance Window (5:00 - 7:00 a.m.).

At least a ten minute outage is expected while the work is being completed.
Emails will be queued during the outage and delivered once service has been restored.

WebAccess Performance testing during maintenance window of 12/9

During the maintenance window on Friday, 12/9 between 0600 and 0700, performance testing will be running against WebAccess QA environment, which could impact new logins to production systems that require WebAccess. There is no change to the configuration (form, fit, or function) of WebAccess itself. Test accounts will be used for the testing and the service will be monitored throughout the test period.

Spring 2017: New Login Procedure for Windows 7 Lab and Podium Computers at University Park, Campuses (TLT, CLM)

Starting December 22, 2016, Windows 7 lab and podium computers will require users to log in by appending "" to the Access ID username (e.g.,

Login attempts that do not include "" will result in a "The user name or password is incorrect" message, even if the Access ID password is correct.

This new login procedure will affect all OVPIT Teaching and Learning with Technology (formerly ITS, CLC) Windows 7 general purpose lab and podium computers at University Park, as well as all College and Commonwealth Campus labs and podiums that are part of the University's Cooperative Lab Management (CLM) service. Most lab computers and podiums will have signage available in the room, at the podium, or on the computer’s login wallpaper to denote this new procedure.

Affected locations and computers (Windows 7 only):

Non-CLM lab computers may or may not have a similar login procedure; please verify with your campus or College IT staff.

This new procedure is a result of a mandated security patch that addresses an authentication vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. CLM Administrators will release this patch on December 22, 2016.

Pennn State Altoona Voice Services Migration

Beginning Monday, December 12th, through Thursday, December 22nd, OVPIT will be migrating Penn State Altoona Campus voice services from their existing Avaya PBX solution to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. As part of this two week migration, inbound and outbound voice call services will be periodically interrupted.

On January 3rd, 2017 the Penn State Personal Web Space Service ( and the Penn State Scripts Testing Service ( will begin a transition from AIX (Apache 1.3) to Linux (Apache 2.2). Linux nodes will be added to the set of servers for and The transition will end on January 5th, 2017 with both services being served fully by Linux HTTP servers.

UCCX/ACD User Login Errors

This afternoon roughly around 2:50PM, it was identified that there were errors encountered with UCCX/ACD Agent Logins. OVPIT has identified and resolved the issue.

PASS Upgrade on Wednesday, January 4

On Wednesday, January 4, during an extended maintenance window (4-7 AM) OVPIT will upgrade the /pass/services and /pass/depts filesystems in PASS. This will upgrade them to the newer features of GPFS 4.1. In order to perform this upgrade, all services that rely upon them will become unavailable during the majority of the maintenance window, 4-7am. These services include, but are not limited to the following:
- Polaris web hosting (,, campus sites,, etc.); these sites will be served in a read-only state from cache during the maintenance

- departmental Web hosting and virtual web hosting ( will be served from cache during the maintenance)
