TSM Self-Service Portal down

The TSM admins have become aware of a server issue that is causing the TSM Self-Service Portal (tsm.apps.psu.edu) to be down. We are currently working on this issue in conjunction with the vendor, and expect the problem to be resolved soon. We do not believe any other TSM functions are affected. Backups and restores should function as normal and no user data has been affected.

Resolved: Access Account password changes behind

Between 9am and 10:05am this morning, password changes for Penn State Access Accounts were behind as the system had to process a large batch of changes. Users may have experienced delays if changing their password during this hour. The last password they set should be effective now.

2/2/17 Data Center Network IPv6 Router Advertisements To Be Disabled

On 2/2/17, during the 5-7 am maintenance window, Data Center Services (DCS) and Enterprise Networking and Communication Services (ENCS) will be disabling IPv6 Router Advertisements (RA) and IPv6 Router Solicitations (RS) in the Data Center Network. This is being done as a security measure to prevent accidental or rogue IPv6 routers from redirecting traffic which could result in traffic interception and snooping.

WebAccess Performance testing during maintenance window of 1/24

During the maintenance window on Tuesday, 1/24 between 0600 and 0700, performance testing will be running against WebAccess QA environment, which could impact new logins to production systems that require WebAccess. There is no change to the configuration (form, fit, or function) of WebAccess itself. Test accounts will be used for the testing and the service will be monitored throughout the test period.

ATT visitor wireless maintenance

On Tuesday, January 31st, during the standard EI&O maintenance window, ENCS will be performing maintenance on the att visitor wireless service. While maintenance is being performed, the att visitor wireless will be unavailable for all wireless networks at University Park.

Penn State webmail.psu.edu security

During the regularly scheduled maintenance windows(5-7 a.m.) on Tuesday, January 24, Wednesday, January 25, Thursday, January 26, and Friday, January 27, ITS will enable Transport Layer Security (TLS) securing outgoing email on webmail.psu.edu. No outage is expected.

Resolved: email.psu.edu degraded state

Starting at 10:38 a.m. and ending at 10:52 a.m., email.psu.edu was in a degraded state. Users may have seen issues checking or receiving e-mail during that time. No messages were lost during that time.

Canvas to return to WebAccess on January 25

At 6:00 am ET on Wednesday, January 25, the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology (OPVIT) will move Canvas back to WebAccess authentication. Canvas had been switched to an alternate authentication method on August 22, 2016.

Users logging in to Canvas after the move will be prompted to either log in to WebAccess with their Penn State user ID and password or will enter Canvas directly via single sign-on if they have a currently active WebAccess session.

FPS and DIMC software update - January 20

On Friday, January 20, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5-7am), OVPIT will perform a software update for Friends of Penn State (FPS) and Digital Identity Management Center (DIMC) . During that time FPS and DIMC may not be available.

ANGEL to be unavailable from 5 a.m. - 6 a.m. ET on Wednesday, 1/25

The Office of the Vice Provost for Information Technology (OPVIT) will be installing Microsoft Windows system updates (patching) on Wednesday, 1/25 from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. ET that will require ANGEL to be unavailable during this time. Once patching has been completed, users will again be able to access ANGEL.

University Technology Center Router Upgrades

During the agreed upon 1-7AM maintenance window on 1/19/2017, Enterprise Networking and Communication Services and Data Center Services will be upgrading the firmware on the Data Center routers at the University Technology Center in Hershey. During the upgrade there is no expected outage, however, there will be a degradation to network traffic between UP and Hershey Data Center routers. This work can be tracked in CHG0039992.

l2tpgroup VPN profile to be discontinued on 1/20/2017

Data Center Services (DCS) is currently working on a plan to phase out older protocols for the Virtual Private Network service. As part of this project, over the next couple of months, several VPN profiles will be discontinued, with the final changeover to the new protocol completed around the Spring Break timeframe.

This alert is to let you know that if you are currently using the "l2tpgroup" with your VPN connection, it will be discontinued.

DCS will continue to work with IT Staff and the IT Service Desk as other profiles are discontinued, to allow for time to transition to the new client and profiles.

When will it happen?
The VPN profile titled “l2tpgroup” will be disabled on Friday, January 20th.

Who will it affect?
A small number of users who select the “l2tpgroup” VPN profile to connect their VPN client to a Penn State network.

How does it affect me?
Users who attempt to connect their VPN client with that profile may receive a message saying that “Access is denied” or that “Authentication has failed.”

If you use the VPN client known as VPN-Virtual Private Network (IPsec), along with this profile, you will need to change your client to the AnyConnect client to receive an updated profile configuration.

Necessary action:
To download the new VPN client, speak with your IT support staff about your VPN configuration. You can also go to https://downloads.its.psu.edu, under “Connecting to Penn State” and download and install the VPN- Virtual Private Network (AnyConnect) client for your operating system.

Universtiy Park Data Center Router Upgrades

During the 5-7AM maintenance window on 1/17/2017 Enterprise Networking and Communication Services and Data Center Services, will be upgrading the firmware on the Data Center routers at University Park. During the upgrade there is no expected outage, however there will be a degradation of service to the connection to the Data Center routers at Hershey. The upgrade is scheduled to start at 5AM and is only expected to last until 6AM. This work can be tracked in CHG0039991.

University Collaboration Suite (UCS) Server Maintenance - January 17

On Tuesday, January 17, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5:00 - 7:00 a.m.), Office of the Vice President of Information Technology will perform University Collaboration Suite (UCS) server maintenance. While work is being performed, some, not all, Outlook Users may not be able to connect for a short period of time. There will be no interruption of mail flow or service via the web interface.
