There will be a brief interruption of Electronic Theses and Dissertations (eTD), Honor Theses (eHT), and ScholarSphere during the 5-7 a.m. (EDT) maintenance window on Thursday, February 23rd.

Maximum email size to be increased from 20 MB to 25 MB

The maximum size of an email sent through Penn State’s email system will be increased from 20 MB to at least 26,222,592 bytes as of Feb. 21. The new increase matches the allotment offered by some other email providers and will enable students, faculty and staff members to send much larger emails than before the increase.

Between 3AM and 8AM University Enterprise network at the following Campuses may have been degraded:

Great Valley: School of Graduate Professional Studies
Lehigh Valley

The issue was isolated to a faulty Statewide WAN circuit. The circuit has been taken out of active service and services should no longer be degraded. The Provider is being engaged to isolate the trouble.

Erroneous Library Recall Notice - February 15

During the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 15, library recall notices were erroneously sent to borrowers whose materials were not recalled. These notices have the recall due date listed as NEVER. If you received one of these notices and would like to verify the status of your library account please go to My Library Account ( where you will see accurate information.

This was caused by a system glitch and is not a security concern.

Mainframe hardware upgrade scheduled for Monday, February 13, 2017

On Monday, February 13, 2017, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5:00-7:00 a.m.), Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (EI&O) will implement our new mainframe hardware environment at Tower Road. During this maintenance period, there will be a brief outage of ACOM, BCOM, and CCOM. This will also impact the GI, FIT, CIDR, and WebIBIS. It is anticipated that this work will be completed before the end of the maintenance window (7 a.m.).

Resolved: University Internet Disruption

On Thursday Feb 09 Between 2:54PM and 2:58PM a Circuit carrying approximately 60% of the University Internet traffic unexpectedly failed. The affected circuit came back into service before a fault could be isolated. During that time Internet traffic may have been disrupted.

Access Account password changes disabled during Maintenance Windows on Feb 11 and 12.

OVPIT will process a large number of Access Account changes on Saturday, February 11, and Sunday, February 12, during the regularly scheduled maintenance windows (5am to 7am).

While the work is in progress people will not be able to change their Access Account password and the Accounts Office will not be able to process password reset requests.

Service will be restored to normal by the end of each maintenance window.

Voice Services Maintenance Work

PASS CIFS Gateway - newer protocols to be enabled

The support for newer SMB protocols, 2 and 3 will be activated during the maintenance window on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, during the maintenance window of 5 to 7 AM.

Users may notice newer features become available. Users may need to reconnect clients to the service after work has been completed.

Penn State Shenango Voice Services Migration

Beginning Friday, February 10th, through Sunday February 12th, OVPIT will be migrating Penn State Shenango Campus voice services from their existing Avaya PBX solution to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. As part of this weekend migration, inbound and outbound voice services will be briefly interrupted.

ANGEL maintenance to occur on Wednesday, February 8

During the scheduled maintenance window on Wednesday, February 8 from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. ET, the ANGEL replication/failover hardware located in Shields Building will be switched to new hardware in the Tower Road data center. ANGEL will still be available during this time, but users are advised that there is a low risk of data loss while this switch occurs.
