On Monday, February 13, 2017, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5:00-7:00 a.m.), Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (EI&O) will implement our new mainframe hardware environment at Tower Road. During this maintenance period, there will be a brief outage of ACOM, BCOM, and CCOM. This will also impact the GI, FIT, CIDR, and WebIBIS. It is anticipated that this work will be completed before the end of the maintenance window (7 a.m.).

Resolved: University Internet Disruption

On Thursday Feb 09 Between 2:54PM and 2:58PM a Circuit carrying approximately 60% of the University Internet traffic unexpectedly failed. The affected circuit came back into service before a fault could be isolated. During that time Internet traffic may have been disrupted.

Access Account password changes disabled during Maintenance Windows on Feb 11 and 12.

OVPIT will process a large number of Access Account changes on Saturday, February 11, and Sunday, February 12, during the regularly scheduled maintenance windows (5am to 7am).

While the work is in progress people will not be able to change their Access Account password and the Accounts Office will not be able to process password reset requests.

Service will be restored to normal by the end of each maintenance window.

PASS CIFS Gateway - newer protocols to be enabled

The support for newer SMB protocols, 2 and 3 will be activated during the maintenance window on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, during the maintenance window of 5 to 7 AM.

Users may notice newer features become available. Users may need to reconnect clients to the service after work has been completed.

Penn State Shenango Voice Services Migration

Beginning Friday, February 10th, through Sunday February 12th, OVPIT will be migrating Penn State Shenango Campus voice services from their existing Avaya PBX solution to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. As part of this weekend migration, inbound and outbound voice services will be briefly interrupted.

ANGEL maintenance to occur on Wednesday, February 8

During the scheduled maintenance window on Wednesday, February 8 from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. ET, the ANGEL replication/failover hardware located in Shields Building will be switched to new hardware in the Tower Road data center. ANGEL will still be available during this time, but users are advised that there is a low risk of data loss while this switch occurs.

OVPIT has begun processing a series of batch Access Account changes. Users may see a delay of up to 15-minutes after changing their password before the new password takes effect.

If your recently changed password does not work, please wait 15 minutes before trying again. The old password, if known should still work during the interim.

Centrex Phone Service Five digit Dialing to End at University Park

Beginning February 1, 2017, five digit dialing will no longer be supported for Centrex phone service at University Park. This dialing change will save the University money by eliminating the maintenance of the legacy Centrex analog infrastructure required for five digit dialing. Penn State students, faculty, and staff members who use Centrex phone services will need to dial“8” plus a seven digit phone number for calls and faxes to other University Park numbers (the same as making an off campus call). Centrex phone service is typically used on campus for some fax machines and residence hall
courtesy phones.

Although Centrex users will need to change their daily dialing habits for local and domestic dialing, international and 911 emergency dialing will not be affected. Those who use Cisco VoIP phones at University Park can continue to dial five digit extensions for calls within University

Update: ServiceNow experiencing infrastructure issues

ServiceNow Customer Support has identified an issue with some of the external DNS that is impacting our instance. Customer Support, together with additional resources, are continuing to work towards restoring service as quickly and effectively as possible. DNS issues have been resolved with one provider (Level 3) so access may be restored when using this DNS provider. Non-Penn State networks may still experience access issues.

SysMan BigFix Root Server Update

On Sunday, January 29, 2017, beginning at 12:00AM, the Systems Management @ Penn State Team will be performing an emergency update to the SysMan BigFix root server and relay infrastructure to version 9.5.4 in order to address a critical vulnerability.

The BigFix console may be unavailable to SysMan and CLM participants between the hours of 00:00 and 07:00 on 1/29/17.

University Collaboration Suite (UCS) Server Maintenance - January 31

On Tuesday, January 31, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5:00 - 7:00 a.m.), Office of the Vice President of Information Technology will perform University Collaboration Suite (UCS) server maintenance. While work is being performed, UCS will be unavailable.

Emails will be queued during the outage and delivered once service has been restored.

WebAccess Performance testing during maintenance window of 1/26

During the maintenance window on Thursday, 1/26 between 0600 and 0700, performance testing will be running against WebAccess QA environment, which could impact new logins to production systems that require WebAccess. There is no change to the configuration (form, fit, or function) of WebAccess itself. Test accounts will be used for the testing and the service will be monitored throughout the test period.
