Known Error impacting ACCESS.PSU.EDU

There is currently an issue impacting authentication with ACCESS.PSU.EDU domain and services. Currently only 2 domain controllers are responsive which is causing degraded authentication. We will post updates as they become available.

Enterprise Network Modification

Enterprise IT Systems Engineering, in cooperation with Data Centers Services and Enterprise Networking and Communication Services, will be reconfiguring several enterprise networks in order to place them behind Data Center firewalls. The first tests of the new configuration will be on August 8 and 9 during the maintenance window from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m. and are not planned to extend beyond 6:30 a.m. on either day. Assuming the tests are successful and approved, the production change would be implemented in mid-August (8/14) prior to student arrival.

The complexity and potential impact of these changes are significant; simulation and testing should prevent major disruptions, however, some service interruption is expected. In order to mitigate this, teams from Systems Engineering and Data Center Services will be working with on-site engineering support from the firewall vendor to quickly resolve issues as they are identified during and after the change. Critical services and systems that could be impacted include: WebAccess, Shibboleth, UCS, WebMail/email, TSM, PASS NFS, Wireless, and LDAP.

Services that maintain persistent connections may experience session timeouts and/or stale connections. PASS mounted via NFS and the TSM scheduler are both known to experience this issue. TSM users should upgrade to the latest client, if possible.

Shields Building: VoIP service disruption

On Tuesday, 8-1-17, during the standard EIT maintenance window VoIP services at the Shields building will be disrupted while the underlying network equipment is moved to another power source.

CPR Deployment

On Friday, July 28, 2017 from 06:00 a.m. to 07:00 a.m., EI&O support staff will be deploying an update to CPR and other supporting services. No outages are expected during this deployment.

WebAccess performance testing 7/28

During the maintenance window (specifically, 05:00 a.m. - 06:30 a.m.) on Friday, July 28, 2017, performance testing of the WebAccess service will be done. Response time for logins and protected websites may be slow at times during the testing.

Graduate School website not allowing for account creation

Currently there is a known issue with the site. Users are currently unable to create accounts in order to submit applications for admission and are receiving an error message when trying to complete the application process.

Teams from Enterprise IT are investigating and will update this alert message when more information is known.

Cannot login to Activity Insight

Voice Mail Server Maintenance Work

Tuesday morning July 25th between 6:00AM and 7:00AM, Penn State IT will perform maintenance work on the voice mail server cluster. There will be no impact on retrieval of voicemails from the system.

Hershey DR Network Intermittent network errors

Service interruption, Thursday July 20,2017

ANGEL to be unavailable from 5 a.m. - 6 a.m. ET on Wednesday, 7/26

Penn State Enterprise IT will be installing Microsoft Windows system updates (patching) on Wednesday, 7/26 from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. ET that will require ANGEL to be unavailable during this time. Once patching has been completed, users will again be able to access ANGEL.

Update: Known Error impacting Yammer: Investigation Underway

It appears that all of Yammer may be 100% inaccessible and those currently logged in may not be able to access Yammer. We are still working with Microsoft on a resolution and will update this alert as we receive further information.

University Enterprise Network Border Router Maintenance

On Thursday July 20th ENCS will be migrating one of the University Border routers to the Tower Road DataCenter starting at 4:30AM. At 4:30AM there may be intermittent internet access for up to 90 Seconds. BigTen Network - A2LS Connection will be unavailable for a longer period of time and will be restored by 8 AM.

The entire Maintenance window is reserved. Work is expected to be complete by 8 AM.

University Collaboration Suite (UCS) Server Maintenance - July 12, 2017

On Wednesday, July 12, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5:00 - 7:00 a.m.), Penn State IT will perform University Collaboration Suite (UCS) server maintenance. During the brief period the work is being performed, users may experience a partial outage. No email will be lost. Email will be queued during the partial outage and delivered once service has been restored.

As a result, some users may not be able to reach the web interface ( ) for a few minutes while the work is being performed. Clients, such as Thunderbird or Mac Mail, may not be able to receive email during that time, but should be able to send email. Lastly, some Outlook users may not be able to send or receive emails for a brief period.

WebAccess: server changes

Audience: This alert is primarily for administrators of Cosign-protected websites.

During the maintenance windows (05:00 a.m. - 07:00 a.m.) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, July 11-13, 2017, the WebAccess servers that provide will be moved to new systems. (This alert will be updated with the status of each day's work.)

This is being done over three days to minimize the potential loss of WebAccess login sessions. No downtimes are expected during the work, and no changes are needed on protected websites.
