Update: Penn State Wireless Service IPv4 subnet expansion taking place July 10

Fri, 06/30/2017 - 11:28
On July 10, Enterprise Networking and Communication Services (ENCS) will be expanding the Penn State Wireless network subnet to 104.38.0.0/15 in order to increase wireless service capacity throughout Penn State.

As a result, wireless security administrators should update any firewall or security policies to include the new IPv4 subnet on or before July 10 if Penn State Wireless traffic is permitted into the network that is being secured.

For reference, the subnets utilized at Penn State for wireless are:

104.38.0.0/15 (255.254.0.0)
130.203.64.0/18 (255.255.192.0)
130.203.160.0/19 (255.255..224.0)
75.102.64.0/18 (255.255.192.0)

For more information about this subnet expansion, reference change request number CHG0042801 in ServiceNow.

Data Center Firewall maintenance July 11, 5-7 am

Thu, 06/29/2017 - 14:03
During the 5-7 am maintenance window on Tuesday, July 11, ENCS and DCS will be performing maintenance on the Data Center Firewalls in Tower Rd and Computer buildings. This maintenance is being performed to re-enable jumbo frame capabilities which had been erroneously turned off during troubleshooting in a previous network event.

Panorama will be available throughout the maintenance, but please do not make any changes to rule sets during the July 11 maintenance window as those changes may not properly synchronize and cause complications.

Although every precaution will be taken to minimize impact to traffic flows during the maintenance, each firewall will need to be individually taken out of service, need configuration changed, need to be rebooted and need to be brought back in to service. As the firewalls are taken out of and in to service, there may be up to four individual disruptions of up to 35 seconds as the network re-converges. These outages will be spread across the maintenance window. Please monitor your applications and services to ensure that functionality is maintained or if corrective action is needed.

WebAccess: reconfiguration of servers

Fri, 06/23/2017 - 11:20
Audience: This alert is primarily for administrators of Cosign-protected websites.

During the maintenance window (05:30 a.m. - 07:00 a.m.) of Tuesday, June 27, 2017, Enterprise IT will be changing the configuration of the WebAccess systems.

The current four separate servers will be changing to two servers in a High Availability arrangement with one IP address.

No immediate changes are required on your websites when this change goes into effect: the four servers will continue to function for at least a week after the change. When the change has been determined to be successful and will remain in place, administrators will be asked to restart their web servers to pick up the new IP address. Please check this alert for status updates.

Firewalls: if your web server has an outbound firewall restricting to which IP addresses it can connect via tcp port 6664, it should be updated now to include the new IP address (128.118.2.15).

This work is being tracking in Service Now CHG0042784.
