DC Network Maintenance 6/20/2017

Fri, 06/02/2017 - 13:35
On 6/20/2017, during the 5-7am maintenance window, ENCS and DCS will be performing maintenance on the Tier 4 network within the Tower Road building. A reboot of the switches is needed to implement system changes to increase the number of VLANs supportable on the switch as well as to enable jumbo frames.

During the reboot, all connectivity to the Tier 4 network within Tower Road will be disrupted for a period of up to 15 minutes. Work is expected to begin shortly after 5:00 am.

This work is being tracked under change CHG00042197.

DC Network Maintenance 6/6/2017

Fri, 06/02/2017 - 13:33
On 6/6/2017, beginning at 5 am and ending before 7 am, ENCS and DCS will be updating management settings on network switches in the DC Networks at Tower Road, Computer Building and Hershey University Technology Center (UTC). The settings being changed include ntp and time zone settomgs. In lab testing, this did not create any impact to network services. It was found in a soak test that changing these settings could cause a switch to see elevated CPU usage. Due to this the work is being performed in a maintenance window and staff will be prepared to deploy to resolve any issues as fast as possible.

No network disruptions are expected. Degraded performance and/or degraded redundancy is possible while the changes are being made.

This work is being tracked under CHG0042472

Thu, 05/25/2017 - 18:03
Based on recommendations from our vendor, ENCS and DCS will be performing network maintenance on the University Park Data Center Network the week of 5/29/17. On Thursday June 1, ENCS and DCS will be upgrading the connectivity between the DC routers to provide more capacity in the case of a failure of other connections on the DC routers. This will require a reboot of each of the DC routers, which will be performed separately. A disruption of 5-10 seconds is expected due to network convergence as each router is rebooted. The first reboot will be at 5:30 am with the second reboot to follow directly after the first reboot is complete. A total of two 5-10 second outages between 5:30 and 5:40 is to be expected.
