Printing: An Introduction

How to Print
All ITS Computer labs are equipped with printers, some locations have more than one type of printer to choose from. Different types of printers are charged at different rates see Printing Limits and Charges for an explanation of the limits and current rates.
You can print to some printers from private computers see Remote Printing for more information.
How to Print from a Windows Workstation:

Click on the Start Menu.

Click on Settings.

Click on Printers.

You will see a box with a choice of printers; click on the printer of your choice and close the dialogue box.

Open the software you will be using, and when you are ready to print, click on the printer icon.
How to print from a Macintosh Workstation:

Click on the How to Print icon.

Follow the directions for choosing a printer.
Popup Messages
Each print job from a lab computer should return messages from the printing system as the job is being processed. If you don't get a message it usually means there is a problem with the printing system and the job has been canceled. The messages you could receive include:
Informational Messages
Print job of <nn> sheet(s) will print on <printername> in <room> <building>
The expected message indicating where the job will print
Including this job, you have printed <nn> jobs using <nn> pages
Messages you can do something about
Job with <nn> sheets canceled, Reason 'User not logged in at that address'
You can not be validated as being logged on to the machine you are using, try logging off and log back on to the same or another machine.
Job with <nn> sheets canceled, Reason 'You have no pages available'
You are out of subsidized pages and have not agreed for billing, to agree for billing go to a signature station.
Print job with nn page(s) cancelled due to current limits
The job you are trying to print has more pages than you are allowed to print, it could be you do not have enough subsidized pages left and have not agreed for billing or exceeded the job limit size. Go to a signature station to agree for billing or the User Printing Information web page to set the job limit.
Print job with <nn> page(s) cancelled, out of subsidized pages
The job you are trying to print has more pages than you are allowed to print, you do not have enough subsidized pages left and have not agreed for billing. Go to a signature station to agree for billing.
Print job with <nn> page(s) canceled: exceeds maximum job size limit of <nnn>
The job you are trying to print has more pages than you are allowed to print, you have exceeded the job limit size. Go to the User Printing Information web page to set the job limit.
Problems
If you're having a problem printing, contact the Help Desk or lab consultants. Hardware problems (paper jams, out of paper, etc.) can be reported to the CLC Hotline.
