Windows XP Conversion -- Usability Differences
Launching Programs
The Start Menu is significanlty revised in Windows XP. You'll find, on the left side of the Start Menu, a list of the programs you have used recently. Most people use only a few different applications, and this is a very nice way to run them without making a desktop shortcut or searching through the extensive program menus.
You will also find a My Documents menu at the top right of the Start Menu; choose that to quickly open documents you have worked on recently that have been save in your Home Folder.
Task Bar
Shortcuts for commonly used programs can be placed on the Task Bar, keeping your desktop uncluttered This was available on Windows 2000, but the shortcuts put on the Task Bar they weren't saved. To do this:
- find the application shortcut via the All Programs menu
- right-click the application shortcut, and holding the button down, drag it off the menu and down to the left part of the task bar;
- release the button, and pick Copy Here from the pop-up menu.
