SysMan offers training seminars to IT staff that are interested in using IBM Tivoli Endpoint Manager (TEM) in their environment. Currently, we offer an introductory course for new users  of TEM, and intermediate/advanced training course for users that have completed the introductory course. We offer training events if you're interested in implementing IBM Tivoli Endpoint Manager in your area.

SYSMAN095: SysMan FastTrack Orientation

This orientation-level course is for IT administrators planning to participate in the Systems Management at Penn State service. Per division manager approval, attendees will be granted IBM Endpoint Manager/BigFix operator accounts and will be introduced to the console as well as other major components of the SysMan service.

Objectives

  • Obtain access to the IEM Console.
  • Learn how to install the management agent on endpoints.
  • Understand the concepts of tasks, fixlets, actions, analyses, and sites.
  • Understand the fundamentals of the SysMan Build Key.

Notes

  • To help keep the pace "fast", each session will be limited to ten attendees. Currently active console operators are asked to refrain from registering for this seminar to allow availability for new administrators.

SYSMAN101: SysMan Boot Camp

SysMan Boot Camp is an introductory course that is required for all IT staff who plan to use IBM Endpoint Manager (IEM) as part of the Systems Management @ Penn State (SysMan) service. The training provides a broad overview of Penn State's implementation of IBM Endpoint Manager and how to get started using it.

Objectives

  • Create and configure your Systems Management@Penn State administrative account.
  • Learn about the architecture, features, and security of the Systems Management @ Penn State service.
  • Understand how to navigate the IBM Endpoint Manager console by walking through basic tasks such as patching, software deployment, inventory, and applying power management settings.
  • Learn how to apply power management settings within your area to effectively reduce energy consumption.
  • Gain knowledge of the reporting features built into IBM Endpoint Manager.

Notes

  • Participants must pass a SYSMAN101 exam with a score of 70% or higher to be granted a console operator account with access to their divisions.

SYSMAN201: Creating Custom Content

This is an optional intermediate training session for IT Administrators who are currently using IBM Endpoint Manager (IEM). This hands-on session introduces knowledge, tools, and techniques for creating custom Fixlets, Tasks, and Analyses using both Relevance Language and Action Script. Although many of the examples are Windows-based, the concepts can be easily applied to other operating systems.

Objectives

  • Learn fundamental concepts of Relevance Language and Action Script, including syntax, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Learn how to use the Fixlet Debugger for testing and debugging Relevance Language and Action Script.
  • Understand how Relevance is used in Fixlets, Tasks, and Analyses and identify key uses of these components.
  • Obtain expert tips and best practices for creating content in IBM Endpoint Manager.

SYSMAN202: Software Packaging and Deployment

This is an optional intermediate training session for IT Administrators who want to leverage IBM Endpoint Manager's software deployment capabilities in their environments. The session is a mixed format of presentation and discussion with hands-on examples to learn tips and best practices for creating, deploying, and troubleshooting software installations using IEM. Although many of the examples are Windows-based, the concepts can be easily applied to other operating systems.

Objectives

  • Build a helpful testing environment.
  • Examine common software installers and learn how to make them silent/unattended.
  • Execute software installations via the command line and verify whether or not they were successful.
  • Create, organize, and deploy software installer packages using IBM Endpoint Manager.
  • Troubleshoot deployments and installations.

Prerequisites

  • SYSMAN101: SysMan Boot Camp
 

SYSMAN203: Mac Software Packaging and Deployment

This is an optional intermediate training session for IT Administrators who want to leverage BigFix's software deployment capabilities for OS X systems in their environments. The session is a mixed format of presentation and discussion with hands-on examples to learn tips and best practices for creating, deploying, and troubleshooting software installations using BigFix. The examples are OS X focused, but the concepts can be easily applied to other operating systems.

Objectives

  • Examine common package installer formats and learn how to make them.

  • Learn to examine vendor packages and how to make them work in any environment.

  • Execute software installations via the command line and verify whether or not they were successful.

  • Create, organize, and deploy software installer packages using BigFix.

  • Troubleshoot deployments and installations.
