Web Service Permissions
Overview
If you use the web service on the "U-drive" you should be able to access your web page via http://my.win.psu.edu/xyz123 where xyx123 is your userid. You should also be able to access pages that you create in subdirectories in your www folder. If you get an error message that states that you are not authorized to view the page, you might have a permissions problem.
How It Works
The web service on the U-drive runs under a special user ConManWeb. To view your page this user must have permissions to read and execute files in the directory in which your web page is saved. If you get the "You are not authorized to view this page" web page, follow these instruction to check and/or fix the permission problem.
|
1. Open your home directory Open your directory on the U-drive (V: on the machines in the labs, or double click on 'Home Folder') |
![]() |
|
2. Locate the problem folder
Navigate to the folder that contains the problem web page. Right-click on the folder |
![]() |
|
3. Open the properties window Left-click on properties in the menu.
|
![]() |
|
4. Check the permissions on the folder. Click on the security tab and see if Conmanweb is in the list. If it is, single-click on it and view the permissions in the table below. The following permissions should be checked: 'Read & Execute', 'List Folder Contents', and 'Read'. If this look correct, then you have another problem.

|
5. Add the Conmanweb user.
If the Conmanweb user is not in the list click the 'Add...' button to the right. Type in the username conmanweb in the 'Enter the object names to select' box. Click 'OK' and the properties window should be up again, but with the conmanweb user added. Make sure the permissions are correct and you are ready to go!
