Equipment Demonstrations - scheduling a demonstration on using equipment found in the Technology Classrooms

General Procedure

Unlocking the Podium

Control Systems

There are currently four types of control systems installed in technology classrooms podiums:

The procedure for selecting projector input is different for each type of control system.

Rossman Switchers

Rossman Switcher

Locate the switcher box (a black or blue panel located on the right side of the podium.) Select the appropriate channel for the device you want to project. PC, Mac and external laptop channels are on the top row, DVD/VCR and external video channels are on the bottom row.

Classroom audio is set by the toggle switch on the right side of the Rossman switcher. For PC, Mac and external laptop audio, the toggle switch should be in the left position, labled "VGA." For DVD/VCR and external video, the toggle should be to the right, labeled "VIDEO." Adjust the sound system volume by turning the knob on the right side of the panel. Some podiums have additional sound system controls on a white box inside the podium.

Overhead projectors in Tech Classrooms with Rossman switchers are controlled by a projector remote.

Projector remote control

To turn the projector on point the remote control at the projector and press the power button . In some classrooms you may have to move closer or stand underneath the projector for a clear signal. Make sure that the projector remote is switched on. Use the source buttons on the remote control to select the device you want to project.

To turn the projector off point the remote control at the projector and press the power button twice.

Crestron Touchpanels

Crestron Touchpanel

The white Crestron touchpanels are located at the top of the podium near the lamp and external laptop ports. To select projector input with the touchpanel control system:

  1. Touch anywhere on the touchpanel to bring up the login screen.
  2. Log in to the touchpanel (use the same combination as the podium lock.) The projector will power on and begin warming up.
  3. Select projector input using the touchpanel buttons.

PC, Mac and external laptop channel buttons are on the left side of the touchpanel. DVD/VCR, cable TV and external video channel buttons are on the right side of the touchpanel.

To display closed captioning with video or cable TV input, press the CC button on the right side of the touchpanel.

To temporarily black out the projector, press the Blank button on the right side of the touchpanel.

To change the classroom audio level, press the VOLUME button on the right side of the touchpanel. Then adjust the volume level using the up and down arrows on the touchpanel screen.

To turn off the projector and control system press the OFF button on the right side of the touchpanel. Touch "YES" on the touchpanel to confirm shutdown.

Full-screen Touch panels

Large auditorium classrooms such as LifeSci 100, Thomas 100, IST 110 and Business 110 feature full-screen touchpanel control systems. To log into the control system, touch anywhere on the touch panel itself. You will be prompted to enter a password (the password may be obtained by calling 777-0035) and select a projector mode (single or dual.)
