Hardware Upgrades for Podium Windows Machines

A hardware upgrade of many podium machines is expected to resolve many of the problems reported this semester.
Several problems with Windows computers in some technology classrooms this fall have included:

  • inability of some of the podium computers to open large PowerPoint files

  • some machines not recognizing the CD drive

  • overall slowness of the machines

  • inability to log on to the computer (or slowness in logging on)

  • inability of some of the machines to display at 1024x768 resolution

  • inability of some of the laptop computers to display on both the laptop and projector screens simultaneously.

Various circumventions and some software changes have helped with some of the problems, but we think that most problems would be addressed by new machines with faster processors and more memory (and that are not laptops).  We are therefore purchasing new machines to be installed as soon as possible in technology classroom podiums.
