Connecting your Laptop to the Podium
Personal laptops may
be used in Technology Classrooms by connecting to the external panel on
the podium. Each podium contains a VGA cable, small RCA audio cable, and
ethernet network cable for your convenience. In classrooms not equipped
with permanent technology, a network connection is available in the
vicinity of the front of the room. For use in non-technology
classrooms, VGA cable, small RCA audio cable, and ethernet network cable
must be provided by the user. Authentication with the Penn State
network is only needed if you wish to use the Internet or other network
services, such as the U-Drive or PASS space. Personal laptops may be

To use network services, your laptop connection must be set to DHCP and
you must connect to the DHCP connection on the podium in a Technology
Classroom, or the network connection located on the wall in
non-Technology Classroom. DHCP is a protocol that allows a networked
client computer to request a valid IP address from a "pool" administered
by a server. When the client computer is not using the IP address, it is
returned to the pool and can be reassigned. This simplifies network
management in that each computer does not need to be assigned a fixed
address.
To connect laptops to the network:
- Change laptop network
settings to DHCP to obtain an IP address and DNS server addresses
automatically.
(Remember to write down your current settings so they can be reset after your session.) - Plug the laptop into the DHCP ethernet port on the external panel or the wall.
- Connect to the Port Login page (https://clc.its.psu.edu/ PortLogin.aspx) and enter your Access Account userid and password.
- Connect laptop to External Laptop Input and audio port on the external panel (monitor and audio cables located in the podium) located on the podium. Connect laptop to a user- provided projection device in a non-Technology Classroom.
- Set your laptop display to mirror image.
