Mobile Ports Database
The Mobile Port Authentication Service provides authentication (password verification) and access control for mobile computer network ports secured by Karl Bridge firewalls or Extreme Network switches throughout Penn State. Prior to the development of this database, the configuration information (primarily the list of possible user addresses assigned to each switch) was in a flat text file which was edited by hand and manually duplicated to the backup web server.
The addition of support for Extreme Network switches was one reason to move to a database; with these devices, port usage can be tracked, and therefore use by location can be tracked too. There would, however, need to be a location assignment for each port. The second reason was to allow administrators of the devices to enter and modify the configuration information themselves, rather than send email to CLC staff.
Currently, network administrators can log into https://clc.its.psu.edu/MopAdmin/ and and, query and edit the configuration information for their devices.
